Healthy persons may re sent such reiteration, but the needs of so many millions of arthritis sufferers demands constant awareness of how to achieve some degree of comfort, if not cure. If you have aches and pains which you put into the big wastebasket called "rheumatism," please let your doctor discover just what kind of underlying disease is producing these nagging discomforts. Aspirin is a marvelous drug.

It relieves much pain. But the idea is to put out the fire, or at least keep a dangerous blaze under control. Proper diagnosis is the way to do it. Gout requires treatment entirely different from that of rheumatoid arthritis. Bursitis may need corticosteroids, ultrasound or X-ray therapy.

But myositis (muscle inflammation I gets better on aspirin or heat applications. So it goes: treatments vary as causes vary. If we don't find the true reason for the trouble, then treatment becomes a hit or a miss game. Arthritis is too important for that kind of management. Although it may occur in the young, arthritis is a disease more common in older persons.

Between the ages of 45-64 it is 10 times more common than under 45. At 5 and over it is double that at midlife.
