Miss Bates was a native and lifelong resident of Anniston. She was among the ifirst teachers at St. Michael Day School 'and a member of St. Michael and All Angels Church. She received the distinguished cross for Outstanding servktat St.

Michael. She taught in Anniston City Schools until her retirement and Clara Bates' Day was declared by Mayor Claude Dear when she retired. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alter Guild of St. Michael. -Scales ROANOKE Services for L.

Senate candidate Alex Seith, died unexpectedly at the couple's suburban Chicago home. Mrs. Seith was found dead about 7 p.m. Friday by her husband, authorities said. The Cook County medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Seith, a lawyer, lost the 1980 Democratic primary to Secretary of State Alan Dixon, who later defeated Lt. Gov. David C. O'Neal for the Senate seat. In 1978, Seith lost his general election battle in a bitter race against incumbent Republican Sen.
