44 briefs 11 die in state weekend mishaps By The Associated Press A car wreck near Florence and another in Tuscaloosa County have raised Alabama's weekend accident death toll to at least 11. State troopers said Tim Taylor Bracher, 19, of Sheffield was killed Sunday in a collision on Alabama about three miles north of Florence. Highway 17 James T. Bailey, 47, of Brookwood died in a headon collision Sunday on a county road about 17 miles north of Tuscaloosa. Among those killed in the other weekend accidents were four more teen-agers and a 3-yearold drowning victim.

Rescue officials said the body of 3-year-old Ian Michael Butka of Riverside was found in Lake Logan Martin at 6:33 a.m. Sunday. The child had been missing since Saturday, officials said. Birmingham police said Andrew J. Robinson 51, of Birmingham was killed Sunday in a two collision within the city limits.

State troopers gave the following list of traffic fatalities: -Phillip Cataldo, 16, of Irondale and Donna Faye Dowling, 17, of Birmingham, both died in a single-car mishap early Sunday. Officers said the car in which they were riding ran off Jefferson County Highway 62, one mile east of Mountain Brook and struck a tree. -A 17-year-old Montgomery youth, Dennis Kamerow, fatally injured Sunday when his car ran off Alabama Highway 170, six miles north of Wetumpka, crashed and threw his body into a creek. Police said the car had "faulty equipment." -Joy of Eight Mile and Charles Harvey, 19, of McIntosh, killed Saturday, 29 miles north of Mobile on U.S. 43.

Their car ran off the highway and overturned. -A two-vehicle accident early Saturday on Limestone County Highway 20 west of Mooresville claimed the life of 21-yearold Luann Wiggins of Decatur. -Jack Wayne Boyer, 23, of New Hope died Friday night when his car went out of control on a rain-slick Madison County road, north of his hometown, ran off the highway and overturned. GI is found dead in bed A soldier at Pt. McClellan was found dead in bed Sunday morning.

Sgt. Pearlie Mae Williams, 28, was found in bed at an Army barracks at 8 a.m. Sunday, an Army spokesman said. Cause of death is unknown and an investigation was continuing today. She was a drill sergeant of Company of the 9th Military Police Battalion.

She was from Houston, Tex. Doctors' offices broken into Break-ins at a service station and an office were reported by Anniston police over the weekend. Police said burglars entered the rear door of the Anniston Orthopedic Associates at 825 Keith Ave. between 5 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m.

Saturday. Items stolen and their value were undetermined, according to police reports. Police also said burglars stole approximately $240 in merchandise and money between 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday at West End Texaco, address unavailable from police records.

According to police reports, the burglars took approximately 50 cartons of cigarettes, $25 in currency and and undetermined quantity of beer. Police are investigating both break-ins. 8 charged with DWI Anniston and Jacksonville police and state troopers arrested and charged eight persons with driving while intoxicated during the weekend. Anniston police charged Jimmy Hughley, 38, of 906 W. 18th Fred L.

Davis, 30, of 1607 McDaniel Charles E. Brown 59, of 320 W. Third all of Anniston; Joe Vann Phillips, 37, Anniston, Rt. and Linda Lea Lewis, 18, of Birmingham. Hughley also was charged with speeding.

Miss Lewis also was charged with reckless driving. Phillips also was charged with driving while his license is revoked. Davis also was charged with reckless driving, driving while his license is suspended and resisting arrest. Brown also was charged with driving while his license is suspended. Jacksonyille police charged Walter Thomas Mayes, 22, of Rome, Ga.

State troopers charged Larry Edward Cortney, 33, address unavailable from sheriff's department records. Cortney also was charged with driving while his license is suspended. 2 arrested in drug case Anniston police arrested and charged two men with violation of the Alabama Uniform Controlled Substance Act during the weekend. According to police reports, charges were made against Ken Allen Baird, 22, of 3109 Braemen Village, Eugene, and Tad Walter Remrey, 28, of 5550 Silverstar Rd. :405, Orlando, Fla.

No further details were available from police. Gunfire strikes residence An unknown gunman shot into an occupied South Anniston home Friday night, but no one was injured, according to police reports. Police said the shooting occurred at the home of Willie B. Stewart, 427 St. at 11:45 p.m.

Police are investigating. Murphy JACKSONVILLE Mrs. Leona Murphy, 83, of Jacksonville died today at Piedmont Hospital after a long illness. Services will be announced by Mickelsen Brown-Service Mortuary. BEACON, N.Y. Services for Mrs.

Faye Shaw Rowlands of Beacon, N.Y., formerly of Anniston, will be Tuesday in Beacon. Mrs. Rowlands died Sunday at Highland Hospital in Beacon after a long illness. Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Rowlands; two daughters, Mrs.

Jeanne Ryan and Miss Deborah Rowlands, both of West Point, N.Y.; a son, William Rowlands of N.Y.; her parents, Mrs. Pauline Kilgore Shaw and the late James Arthur Shaw of Anniston; and a sister, Mrs. Jeane Shaw Gardner of Anniston. Mrs. Rowlands was a native of Birmingham and later moved to Anniston.

She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Forney Kilgore and the late James Pleasant and Emma Shaw, all of Anniston. Sewell Services for William Frank Sewell, 73, of 2003 Alabama 21, Oxford, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev.

C.B. Davis officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Piedmont with Miller Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Sewell died Sunday at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred H. Sewell of Oxford; two daughters, Mrs. Edna McKenzie and Mrs. Teresa Mitchell, both of Oxford; two sons, Huey Sewell of Oxford and Gerald Sewell of Lakeland, a sister, Mrs.

Minnie Reynolds of Piedmont; seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tony Roberts, Stanley Roberts, Ricky Roberts, Ray Roberts, Gene Holley and DeWitt Brown. Mr. Sewell was a member of Congregational Methodist Church Piedmont and a lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He operated the concession stand in the courthouse 29 years.

The body will remain at the funeral home through services. Waldorf Services for Ralph Bert Waldorf, 43, of Anniston, Rt. 5, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with burial in Iron City Cemetery and Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge. Mr.

Waldorf died Sunday in White Plains. Survivors include a son, Michael Waldorf of Tonawanda, N.Y.; a daughter, Miss Susan Waldorf of Tonawanda; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph G. Waldorf of Anniston; a brother, Frederick L.

Waldorf of Okeechobee, five sisters, Mrs. Sally Terrell 'and Mrs. Barbara Thompson, both of Albany, Mrs. Deborah Yanke of Iron City, Mrs. Sandra Moore of Okeechobee and Mrs.

Karen Senko of Tonawanda. Mr. Waldorf was a native of New York and a resident of Calhoun County the past five months. He was an employee of Spring Valley Foods of Heflin. The body will remain a at the funeral home through the services.
